Another must-have Aroid for your collection. Alocasia baginda 'Dragon Scale' is prized for its stunning bullate leaves, velvety appearance, and distinctive venation. The dark emerald green leaves of Alocasia 'Dragon Scale' turn even darker near the main vein further highlighting the intricate venation of this outstanding Aroid. The abaxial leaf surface is equally as stunning with deep maroon venation against a pale green surface. This maroon venation will appear faint on newly emerging growth but will quickly deepen as the leaf hardens off. Currently growing in a 4" pot and pushing out new growth, this plant will be ready to bump up as soon as it acclimates to its new home.
This is a must for any Aroid collection. Jewel Alocasia thrive in bright light indoors and part sun - shade outdoors. When growing inside supplemental light and humidity would be appreciated and encourage new, quicker growth. Grown outside Alocasia must be brought inside when temperatures drop below 55*. Provide chunky, quick-draining media, a standard 'Jungle' or 'Aroid' mix amended with a slow-release fertilizer or top-dressed with worm castings. Good drainage is key to keeping Alocasia happy.
Like other thick-leaved Alocasia, allow to fully dry between watering, use a fast-draining potting mix and provide bright light. Jewel Alocasia are far less tolerant of moist soil than the other thinner leaf varieties. Moisture meters are especially helpful for the home grower as Alocasia are quite sensitive to both over and under watering.
