Join us for a hands-on introduction to plant tissue culture — the art and science of cloning plants in a sterile, lab environment. In this class, you’ll learn the techniques used by professional growers to propagate rare and exotic species, from preparing sterile media to transferring plantlets and preventing contamination.
We’ll cover:
Tissue culture basics — what it is, how it works, and why it’s used
Lab setup & sterilization — tools, equipment, and safety
Media preparation — mixing and adjusting nutrients & hormones
Explant selection & transfer — how to start and maintain cultures
Acclimating plants — moving from lab to greenhouse successfully

Take-home flask from in-class work
Variety of plants in domes ready for acclimation

What to wear:
For safety and cleanliness, please come in closed-toe shoes, with long hair tied back, and wearing a short-sleeve shirt to make working under the hood easier.
