Venus Flytrap- Dionaea muscipula 'Jaws', IMP-0012
Dionaea muscipula ‘Jaws’ is a classic, intimidating Venus flytrap cultivar known for its massive traps, bright red interiors, and bold, triangular “shark-like” teeth. Derived from a Dentate Traps cross with a particularly vigorous unnamed flytrap, Jaws combines exceptional trap size with strong growth and an upright habit during the active season.
At peak summer growth, the serrated, saw-tooth margins reach their most dramatic expression, giving the traps a truly vicious appearance. These traps are fast and powerful, sealing shut with authority—very few insects escape once caught.
The Venus flytrap grows alongside other carnivores in boggy, open savannahs. For many years, misinformation spread that stated flytraps were hard to grow or required very stringent horticultural requirements. Fortunately, this couldn’t be farther from the truth! The Venus flytrap is a hardy plant, capable of being grown outdoors in nearly every state in the USA (some winter accommodation may be required for harsh northern winters and for desert summers). Our plants grow outside in the burning Texas sun year round and have even taken cold fronts down to 15 degrees Fahrenheit in the winter with no ill effects. Flytraps are dormant from December to March and will appear dormant and not in active growth during these months.
