Drosera schizandra, Notched / Heart-Leaf Sundew
Drosera schizandra forms broad, lush rosettes of large, heart-shaped leaves that can reach impressive size. The thin leaves have a distinctly tropical appearance and are covered with relatively sparse tentacles compared with many other Drosera. New plants can also emerge from the roots, allowing established specimens to gradually develop into colonies.
Drosera schizandra is native to the rainforests of northeastern Queensland, Australia, where it occurs in cool, humid, partially shaded habitats. It belongs to a closely related group of sundews commonly known as the "Queensland Sisters." In cultivation, D. schizandra appreciates high humidity, consistently moist soil, and lower light levels than most sundews. Intermediate temperatures with protection from excessive heat and direct sunlight will produce the best growth. We recommend growing it in enclosed terrariums of sphagnum moss where humidity can remain consistently high. Its unique leaf shape, unusual rainforest habitat, and distinctive appearance make Drosera schizandra one of the most remarkable tropical sundews in cultivation.
