Drosera lovellae, IMP-0245
This attractive Australian sundew forms low-growing rosettes of broad, spoon-shaped leaves covered in glistening tentacles. The foliage can develop rich red and bronze coloration under strong light, contrasting beautifully with bright green new growth. Originally described by F. M. Bailey in 1893, this plant has also been treated as Drosera spatulata var. lovellae. It was distinguished from typical Drosera spatulata by its flowers having four styles rather than three, although this distinction is not universally accepted because the number and arrangement of styles and stigmas can vary within Drosera species.
Drosera lovellae is found on Fraser Island in Queensland, Australia. In cultivation, it appreciates bright light, warm to moderate temperatures, and consistently moist conditions. Like other forms in the Drosera spatulata complex, it is an adaptable and relatively easy-growing sundew, making it an interesting plant for both beginning growers and collectors.
