Drosera gunniana
Drosera gunniana is an Australian tuberous sundew that produces an upright stem lined with rounded, shield-shaped leaves. Unlike familiar rosette-forming sundews, its vertical growth gives mature plants a delicate, almost miniature-vine appearance. Drosera gunniana was historically classified as Drosera peltata var. gunniana but was elevated to species status in 2018.
Drosera gunniana is native to southeastern Australia and Tasmania, where its growth is strongly seasonal. Plants emerge from underground tubers during the cool, wetter portion of the year, grow and flower above ground, and then retreat back to their tubers as conditions become warmer and drier. In cultivation, plants appreciate bright light, cool to moderate temperatures, and consistently moist soil while actively growing. Once the plant naturally dies back, watering should be reduced substantially and the dormant tuber kept relatively dry until growth resumes.
Note that Drosera gunniana may continue to grow as long as the soil stays moist. We recommend continuing to keep it wet until it dies back.
