Nepenthes ampullaria is a classic lowland species occurring throughout Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei, and Papua New Guinea. Sulawesi forms of ampullaria seem to be rare in cultivation. The plants for sale are seed grown with provenance from South Sulawesi.
