This Bornean species produces magnificently shaped flared peristomes on robust pitcher bodies with colors ranging from deep brown to pink to candy cane striped. This is a selected prostrate form veitchii from Malesiana Tropicals that has been circulating in cultivation for over 25 years. It's hard to argue about a classic! This clone has one of the best veitchii shapes out there. Pitchers start off with a pink body and yellow peristome and then the peristomes darkens to a beautiful chocolate color while the body turns golden.
If we had to pick a favorite species of carnivorous plant then Nepenthes veitchii would certainly be in the running. Most veitchii in cultivation are descendants of plants found at intermediate elevations. However, we have found that veitchii is very tolerant of a wide range of temperatures and have grown them well in our lowland, intermediate and highland houses. Veitchii prefers good drainage and we recommend using an open mix with net pots and an open mix and letting the media dry out to just moist between waterings.
