Sarracenia psittacina is an American Pitcher Plant with a wide range from Mississippi east into Georgia. It has a compact, ground hugging growth form and it's postulated the trap structure helps it catch prey when pitchers are submerged underwater. Plants for sale are an outstanding variety of this low growing species and have ancestry from Liberty Co., Florida. The heads on these can attain the size of golfballs.
Psittacina prefers lower light and wetter conditions than other Sarracenia species. Many growers have success keeping them in pools of floating sphagnum moss. However, they can also be grown conventionally with a peat mix.
